HI-MEMS, or Hybrid Insect Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems, is a project under the US Department of Defense that integrates micro-mechanical systems into insects during metamorphosis to create machine-insect interfaces. These "insect cyborgs" can be controlled with electrical impulses, with ongoing developments of AI upgrades.
